SUSPECTS IN BANK ROBBERIES IN AURORA, GURNEE, AND OTTAWA
A Bartlett, Illinois man and woman suspected of committing three armed takeover bank robberies in a three-week span have been arrested, announced Jeffrey S. Sallet, Special Agent-in-Charge of the FBI Chicago Field Office and John R. Lausch, United States Attorney for the Northern District of Illinois.
James D. Williams, 41, of Bartlett, Ill., was taken into federal custody on May 31, 2018, and Alexis T. Handelman, 21, also of Bartlett, Ill., was taken into state custody on June 18, 2018, on unrelated local charges. Both are charged in an indictment filed in U.S. District Court in Chicago with robbing the Old Second Bank located at 323 East Norris Drive in Ottawa, Ill., on May 11, 2018.

Leading up to the three bank robberies, the indictment states Williams stole an AK-47 firearm and rented different vehicles. The indictment also states on one occasion Williams later attached stolen license plates to a vehicle he recently rented.
If convicted, the defendants face a possible sentence of up to 20 years in prison for each count. These arrests were made with the assistance of the Ottawa, Gurnee, Aurora and Palatine Police Departments, as well as the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office.
The FBI reminded the public that an indictment is not evidence of guilt and that all defendants in a criminal case are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
