EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH ACTIVATED SATURDAY MORNING THROUGH MONDAY EVENING

Heat from the Plains will begin building in Chicagoland on Friday, and a thin line thunderstorms with a little punch passing Rockford at 5:20 a.m. may or may not hold together as it slowly moves east toward Arlington Heights and the northwest suburbs. The Cardinal expects the storms will stall and/or die off before reaching Arlington Heights. This morning’s low of about 65°F feels cool and/or comfortable.

Weather Radar (also nexrad.chgowx.com) shows a long, thin line of slow, eastward-moving thunderstorms running from north of Madison, WI and south of Peoria … and passing Rockford at about 5:20 a.m. Parts of the line are diminishing and parts are strengthening. The storms are expected to die off before they reach the northwest suburbs, but it is possible they could hold together and reach Arlington Heights about 8:00 a.m.

…EXCESSIVE HEAT WATCH REMAINS IN EFFECT FROM SATURDAY MORNING
THROUGH MONDAY EVENING…

* TEMPERATURES…Afternoon highs will be in the mid to possibly
upper 90s Saturday through Monday. Nighttime lows in the city
will likely only be around 80 Saturday night and Sunday night.

* HEAT INDICES…Peak afternoon heat indices of 100 to 105 are
forecast Saturday, Sunday and Monday. Only minimal relief from
the heat is expected at night with heat indices likely to

* IMPACTS…The extended duration of heat, combined with nearly
full sunshine, and oppressive warmth even at night will lead
to potentially hazardous conditions, particularly for the
elderly and those with pre-existing health conditions.
Residents of the city of Chicago can call 3…1…1…to
request well being checks for elderly friends or family
members, or for information on finding the nearest cooling
center.

temperatures is expected. The combination of hot temperatures and
high humidity will combine to create a dangerous situation in
which heat illnesses are possible. Drink plenty of fluids…stay
in an air-conditioned room…stay out of the sun…and check up
on relatives and neighbors.
