Man Arrested with Prescription Drugs, Cannabis at Home on Peartree Drive, Lake in the Hills

Ahmed A. Baig, 23, on Wednesday March 14, 2018 was arrested and taken into custody by the McHenry County Sheriff’s office narcotics task force at his residence in the block of 3800 Peartree Drive just west of Frank Road, and just west of Boulder Ridge Country Club in Lake in the Hills.

Baig has been charged with unlawful possession of cannabis with the intent to deliver, destruction of evidence, unlawful possession of cannabis, unlawful of drug paraphernalia, two counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver and three counts of unlawful possession of a controlled substance.

The Lake in the Hills Police Department worked together with the McHenry County sheriff’s office narcotics division for about a month investigating the neighbors’ reports of drug dealing from the residence in a neighborhood of single-family homes on the northwest side of Lake in the Hills.

Among the illegal substances were Lorazepam and Alprazolam. Lorazepam (Ativan) is a benzodiazepine prescribed for anxiety disorders, difficulty sleeping, and other disorders. Illegal use includes recreational use to get “high” and criminal predatory use for hypnotic effects facilitating date rape and robbery.

Alprazolam is used under the trade name Xanax, and is also prescribed for anxiety disorders, including panic disorder. Alprazolam is illegally used to get “high” or to enhance effects of alcohol and opioids, or to reduce uncomfortable or unwanted stimulant reactions of other illegal drugs, such as amphetamines, cocaine and ecstasy (MDMA).

Detectives estimate the street value of the drugs found in the house was about $1,970.

According to the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office, items seized from Baig’s residence included …

$1,263 in cash,

51 Alprazolam pills,

8 Lorazepam pills,

65 grams of marijuana,

4 grams of cannabis edibles,

cocaine residue, packaging materials, and

a digital scale.

Baig was released on bond on Thursday, March 15, 2018. Baig’s next court date was not available.
