ARLINGTON HEIGHTS WOMAN KILLED IN CRASH ON ROUTE 83 IN LONG GROVE NEAR ROYAL MELBOURNE — JUST NORTH OF ROUTE 22

Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and Long Grove firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:18 PM Thursday January 4, 2018 to a report of a crash with ejection at Route 83 and Route 22 Long Grove, Il . Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a crash with ejection injuries resulting in a fatality. Lake County Sheriff reported one dead at the scene by 11:23 p.m.

The person was ejected and discovered in front of a vehicle. The victim was identified as a 78-year-old Arlington Heights woman. The woman died at the crash scene.

Battalion Chief 55 on arrival reported two vehicles involved in a crash, and was out investigating by 11:23 PM.

One patient died outside a crashed vehicle on the ground, and one patient was assessed by paramedics.

One patient was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Ambulance 55 — leaving the scene about 11:57 PM.

Buffalo Grove Squad 26 was dispatched for a light tower for illumination of the fatal crash investigation scene at 1:13 AM.

Northbound and southbound Route 83 lanes were blocked near the crash scene.

Northbound lanes were blocked at Route 22; southbound lanes were blocked at Royal Melbourne Drive.

The crash was located near the southbound shoulder near a utility pole about 290 feet north of Route 22. Preliminary investigation determined that the vehicle the Arlington Heights woman was driving — a 2015 Subaru Outback — was northbound when it crossed the median and crashed into an oncoming southbound vehicle. The southbound vehicle was a 2004 Jeep Liberty.

There appeared to be fresh tire tracks in the snow on the northbound shoulder south of the crash scene that appeared to veer toward the crash scene on the opposite side of the row. There is no confirmation whether these tracks are connected to the crash.

The Arlington Heights woman, was not wearing her seatbelt, and was ejected from her vehicle.

The crash is being investigated by the Lake County Sheriff’s Technical Crash Investigations Unit.

No victim identities were released, as is normal until family members are notified.

This is the second crash in less than one month when an Arlington Heights woman has been involved in a crash, after losing control of her vehicle in Lake County, that resulted in a death.
