Arlington Heights police responded about 4:15 PM Friday December 8, 2017 to a hit-and-run crash, property damage-only, at Mariano’s, 802 East Northwest Highway Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that a driver crashed into a shopping cart canopy at Mariano’s parking lot near the south entrance.
The offending vehicle with license plate information was described to police. Witness described an older male driver that hit the shopping cart canopy, which collapsed onto four vehicles parked nearby.
At least one of the vehicles was so badly damaged, it needed to be towed by Hillside Towing.
Three vehicles, including a blue Porsche Cayenne, were significantly damaged by the crash. Most vehicles had front-end damage, but one vehicle — a red crossover SUV had a gouge and scratch the full length on the driver’s side.
Mariano’s staff quickly secured the area, and crew responded and removed the damaged canopy by 8:00 p.m. Friday.
Mariano’s recently started replacing their 7-year-old shopping carts, and several of the new shopping carts were destroyed in the crash.
