Arlington Heights police have reacted to an August stabbing by operating with an extra presence in downtown Arlington Heights for added security. Some officers were apparently assigned to park in downtown Arlington Heights, rather than patrol other streets between assigned calls.

While initial reports that a late August stabbing was said to have involved a dispute between friends, there is word from reliable sources that the case may be undergoing investigation as a botched armed robbery related to a Craigslist meeting on Campbell Street. Arlington Heights police have not announced a suspect in the incident, which injured two people. A victim may have been attempting to sell a wireless phone. A cell phone was collected into a plastic evidence bag at the scene, immediately after the stabbing (See video at the scene)

Police on the way to the Campbell Street address reported discovering a second stabbing victim stabbed in the neck near the parking garage at 22 South Vail Avenue. Initially there was information understood that two friends entered into a physical fight and one friend hit the other with a beer bottle Sunday night, August 28, 2017.

Monday morning police confirmed that one person was stabbed after intervening in a fight between two friends, but later it was reported that three men were involved in the case. First two men got into a fight, with one hitting the other in the head with a beer bottle. Police said the alleged offender took the victim’s mobile device.

Police said when the offender, who swung the beer bottle and hit one man, tried to run, a third man intervened to attempt to stop him. The fleeing offender pulled out a knife, stabbed the second intervening victim and fled the scene, according to police. Therefore, the suspect is believed to have hit one man in the head with a beer bottle and then to have stabbed another man.

Police initially declined to reveal a potential motive for the attack, and remain quiet about any further details of the attack. Police said the crime was not considered random, but said none of the men knew each other.

At least one witness described the suspect as a male/black 5’9 to 5’10” thin build, with a buzz cut haircut and wearing a black hoodie. The suspect description had not been confirmed by police as of 10:30 p.m. The police never officially announced a description of the suspect.

Police did not say where on the street the victim was stabbed or where the stab wound was located on the victim’s body.

Both victims were transported to Northwest Community Hospital by Arlington Heights Fire Department firefighter/paramedics. Since the crime scene yellow tape barrier was taken down by about 9:30 p.m., the victims’ injuries were believed to be not life threatening. Police confirmed that the injuries were not life threatening.

Police were gathering evidence and speaking with witnesses from about 8:45 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. from both victim locations. The crime scene was apparently in front of 14 West Campbell Street, where firefighters accomplished a biohazard cleanup near the curb on the south side of Campbell Street. A significant amount of blood was located near the curb behind a sidewalk bench, and this is presumed to be the location of the actual stabbing.
