Woodstock Independent: ENTRANCE INSIDE – Sunrise Liquor Armed Robbery, 7/12/17, Woodstock, Ill., USA (Source: Woodstock Police Department).

Woodstock police, McHenry County Sheriff, and Woodstock Fire District firefighter/paramedics responded about 2:40 p.m. Wednesday July 12, 2017 to a report of an armed robbery at Sunrise Food and Liquor, 715 McHenry Avenue in Woodstock. The crime scene was only about 1200 feet southwest of Marian Central Catholic High School.

Two male offenders allegedly committed the armed robbery, and the encounter with a store clerk was captured on multiple store surveillance video cameras.

The store employee, wearing a horizontally striped shirt was injured when one of the robbery suspects struck him with a handgun during the robbery of the Woodstock liquor store and convenience store.

Security videos from multiple angles available on the Woodstock Independent newspaper YouTube channel (provided by Woodstock Police Department) show two armed offenders moving awkwardly and hastily throughout the property, while wearing masks and gloves. The offenders are initially seen running into the store with handguns visible in their right hands. A person outside the store, wearing a blue shirt is seen running away from the store. Also, an apparent customer with a ponytail and white shirt, and carrying a product, is seen escaping from inside the store out the front door, immediately after the offenders enter the store.

Inside the store, one suspect jumps over the counter. Police report a male store employee was struck on the head multiple times with an offender’s gun. The offenders, who demanded money from the clerk, were able to take an undisclosed amount of cash. They took the money themselves out of a cash register drawer. One offender bumped his head on the bottom of the cash register drawer as he stood up from a crouched position under the cash register.

The bleeding store clerk was able to escape out the front door of the store, but stayed near the front door as the suspects left the store. After exiting the store, the suspects fled — running north.

A search of the area with a police K-9 unit from the McHenry County Sheriff’s Office was unsuccessful, according to McHenry County Sheriff’s police.

Suspect #1, who police say struck the store clerk, is believed to be a white male, wearing a light-colored mask, dark-colored pants, a blue raincoat, black shoes and dark gloves. He was armed with semi-automatic pistol with a silver slide and a black frame.

Suspect #2 was described as wearing a dark-colored sweatshirt with a white T-shirt exposed by his waistline, two-toned gloves with dark palms, and a dark baseball hat with white lettering. Suspect #2 entirely concealed his identity by wearing a dark-colored mask. Suspect #2 was armed with a black hammerless revolver, according to police.

The store employee was transported by the Woodstock Fire/Rescue District firefighter/paramedics to a local hospital with injuries initially believed to be non-life-threatening.

Woodstock Police Department’s Investigations Division is investigating the robbery, and the two male suspects are wanted for the investigation of the armed robbery.
