Gas station surveillance video captured an attempted carjacking after offenders in a black Cadillac pulled next to a female victim’s Subaru Outback, and attempted to take the Subaru Outback.
Inside Edition interviews a woman who jumped on the hood of her car as it was being carjacked on Tuesday May 23, 2017 about 2:00 p.m. Melissa Smith says she wasn’t afraid as she took on the would-be car thief. “My first reaction was, ‘This is not happening to me today,'” Melissa Smith told Inside Edition. The 28-year-old woman was in her Subaru Outback when she stopped at a gas station near downtown Milwaukee to fill up. A Cadillac at the next pump pulled out and suddenly stopped. A passenger then hopped out, sneaking over and getting into her car. The carjacker exited the car without putting it in park, while Melissa was still on the hood. She managed to stop the vehicle safely.
The offender did manage to take Melissa’s purse, wallet and Apple iPhone.
“It’s not cool. It’s not going to make you successful. It’s not going to make you good honest money. It’s going to get you into big trouble one day. I’m glad people are seeing (the video) and know this can happen to anybody. Anywhere. I did not expect that to happen at 2:00 in the afternoon.”
