Cortland, Illinois Teen Identity Released As Second Homicide Victim in Addison Shooting, Crash

Addison police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 1:00 p.m. Saturday May 6, 2016 to a report of a crash and shots fired near Denise Court and Elizabeth Drive. The crime scene was located in a neighborhood of small apartment buildings behind and just north of the Addison Green Meadows Shopping Center stip mall, which is directly across the street from Addison Police Department Headquarters on Lake Street.

On arrival, police discovered a 20-year-old Villa Park man and a 17-year-old Addison boy in a vehicle that had crashed into a tree at Town Center Park. Both were transported to nearby hospitals to be treated for gunshot wounds and were later pronounced dead.

Addison police released the identity of one male victim as 20-year-old Alberto Rios of Villa Park. Police later released the identity of the teen. Kevin Bustos-Garcia, age 17, of Cortland, Illinois in DeKalb County, was transported to Alexian Brothers Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead at 2:17 p.m. The youth’s hometown of Cortland is just east of DeKalb, and about 20-25 miles northwest of Aurora and Naperville.

Officials are reporting they believe the shooting and crash involved a targeted attack and said “there is no threat to the community.”

Police canvassed the neighborhood and are checking security camera images in the area. Addison police continued to investigate the proximity of the scene as of 8:00 p.m. Saturday.

Police urge that any citizens aware of any information about the crime to call Addison Police Investigations Division at 630-543-3080. Addison police said that callers remain anonymous.

The crime scene is also located less than two blocks west of Addison Park District.
