Lottery officials announced that Arlington Heights resident Valeriy Yermolenko, who described himself as an occasional lottery player who buys one or two instant tickets each month, has won the top amount in the $250,000 Crossword ticket. Yermolenko said he was visiting family members in Chicago when he purchased his lucky $250,000 Crossword ticket at the 7-Eleven store at 2619 N. Clark Street.
The $250,000 Crossword is a $10 instant ticket with a top prize of $250,000, officials said. Other awards possible include $25,000 and $50,000.
“My heart started racing when I saw that I won $250,000. I couldn’t believe my luck,” Yermolenko said in a statement.
The Arlington Heights man said he plans go on a tropical vacation after winning $250,000 from the scratch-off lottery ticket, Illinois Lottery officials said Wednesday February 8, 2017. Yermolenko said when he returns from his vacation, he hopes to buy a house.
The operators of the 7-Eleven store on Clark Street in Chicago received $2,500 (1 percent of the prize amount of the the winning ticket sold, according to lottery officials.
