Libertyville police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 11:26 PM Friday to a report of a man slumped over the wheel just south of the Acura dealership, 1620 South Milwaukee Avenue Libertyville, Il. A motorist called 911 after seeing the man slumped over the wheel in the dark-colored Volkswagen Jetta.
Police and firefighter/paramedics received a report of a person passed out in a running vehicle, just south of the Acura dealership.
Paramedic crews reported they are working a full arrest, and requested an engine crew to respond to the scene by 11:32 p.m.
The victim in the vehicle was discovered with a gunshot wound.
The patient was transported to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Condell Medical Center, where he was pronounced.
Police are investigating the death of the man found slumped over the wheel in a dark-colored Volkswagen Jetta in Libertyville as a homicide, according officials. Police have identified a person of interest who is currently in police custody in connection with the homicide, but no charges have been filed yet, said Christopher Covelli, a Lake County major crimes task force spokesman.
The location on Milwaukee Avenue, south of the Acura dealership is near Hollister Drive in Libertyville.
Covelli declined to say where the victim was shot, or whether the gunshots came from inside or outside the car.
The identity of the man is being held until an autopsy is completed and the victim’s family is notified. The autopsy is scheduled for today.
