Arlington Heights police responded about 7:45 AM Sunday to the block of 900 South Scarsdale Court Arlington Heights, IL. Police received a report that one or two male subjects attempted to break into a house but then fled.

Arlington Heights police put out a local radio broadcast that included Palatine Police Department, but did not broadcast an area wide broadcast on ISPERN, which covers a wider area that includes a greater number of police departments.

Palatine police may have captured a suspect that matched the description of the Arlington Heights home invasion suspect in the area of Quentin Road and Euclid Avenue. A large number of Palatine and Inverness police officers were searching the area of the Chase Bank and in the backyards of homes nearby at Quentin Road and Euclid Avenue about 9:45 a.m. Sunday. The Arlington Heights suspect might have been captured there, but the information has not been confirmed by officials.

A second suspect possibly remains at large.

The initial crime time is reported to have occurred at about 7:45 a.m.

Arlington Heights Police provided no immediate notification about the home invasion or a possible at large suspect involved in a home invasion to Arlington Heights residents via their official Twitter account or their official Facebook account. At this time it is unknown whether any reverse 911 call was made to the neighbors in the nearby home of the home invasion.

A home invasion was reported on the same block at a house on Scarsdale Court on Thursday March 22, 2012 at about 4:55 a.m. Arlington Police responded immediately, which caused the fleeing offenders to dump some of the items they had stolen. A K-9 search helped discover some of the items, but the offenders were not captured. The house was undergoing renovation when the home invasion/burglary occurred, but residents were still living in the home during the renovation.

Cardinal Note: As of June 5, 2013 — up to and including the date of this article — police incidents related to the above police agency are not reported in real time or within a prompt time period. Police protecting their realm of investigation and police activity, have chosen to use secret military-grade encrypted radios to withhold their police communications, which were previously open to the public and news media via monitoring of public safety scanning radios — with no known negative results locally.

The delayed knowledge or entirely blacked out knowledge resulting from encrypted police communications may protect certain police operations and investigations, but it also puts the public at risk in situations such as when armed and dangerous offenders are at large and when other similar situations occur, such as when desperate offenders of property crimes are eluding police. In other cases, the delayed or blacked out information inhibits or prohibits the possibility of the public providing early witness accounts before a criminal trail goes cold. Citizens are much more likely to recognize or recall suspicious or criminal activity if they are aware of the criminal incident within minutes or hours of its occurrence. The most serious incident involving dire results would be a trail that is allowed to go cold in the case of child abduction.

The lack of real time information from public police dispatch also weakens an effective neighborhood watch program mostly working to prevent property loss, but also working to prevent possible violent crimes.

Lack of real time information from police dispatch also delays public awareness or eliminates public awareness of general hazards and traffic or other situations in every day living in an otherwise economically thriving community.

Police have alternate ways to transmit tactical, operational or investigative information, while still keeping their main public dispatch channels open for the best balance of public safety and police safety.
