Arlington Heights police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 5:00 PM Friday to a report of smoke in a hallway in an apartment complex at 2160 South Goebbert Road Arlington Heights, IL. Police and firefighter/paramedics smelled an odor of smoke, but were unable to locate any fire after 90 minutes of thoroughly checking the apartment building.
Firefighters used infrared cameras and evacuated the building in case of a fire. The infrared cameras did not detect any heat sources and the smoke odor dissipated and did not return.
Firefighters left after 90 minutes. Possibly, someone burned some detached would that somehow got in the ventilation system.
Elk Grove Village and Mount Prospect firefighters assisted Arlington Heights firefighters.
