Circa ’57, a highly anticipated restaurant at the southwest corner of Vail Avenue and Campbell Street is scheduled to open on Thursday, October 17, 2013. Visitors checking out the restaurant are surprised to learn that the whole restaurant wraps around the corner — extending south toward the Peoples’ Bank location, and west toward the Metropolis performing Arts Centre from the former Grand Station restaurant space at 101 W. Campbell Street. The restaurant has ambient features in different sections. The room to the west is reminiscent of the interior of a classic 50’s-built home or bungalow house — complete with aluminum siding and shingle roof at the exterior of the “entrance” and a kitchen, fireplace, console stereo and more on the inside. for example, will offer specialties from mom’s home cooking and dad’s backyard grill. Food to match the ambience will include a menu of Mom’s home cooking and Dad’s backyard grill.

There’s also a classic diner and soda fountain area. In the corner, center location of the former Grand Station restaurant, is the soda fountain — complete with glowing glass block under the counter and the chrome accents of a 50’s style soda fountain establishment. To the south of the Soda Fountain is a diner with dark, rich hardwood floors. Another section, to be completed at a later date, will feature an automotive/drive-in scene complete with a 1957 Chevrolet and other cars from the era.
Staff and beta testers have been seen at the restaurant the past few weeks, and the dark hardwood floor was just finished about mid-September.
The opening of Circa ’57 adds to one of the top highlights of Arlington Heights — an appealing downtown group of restaurants that offer great eating experiences and great smells, especially along Vail Avenue and Campbell Street.
