Mount Prospect police responded about 9:39 PM Thursday to a report of a child overheated in a vehicle parked in the block of 900 North Elmhurst Road Mount Prospect, IL. Police received a report that witnesses hear a child crying. A store employee working nearby reached inside a partically open driver’s side window and unlocked the door.

The rear windows of the car were open about six inches, and the rear vent windows were open.

The child was not transported to the hospital, but was initially hot from the heat exposure. He is believed to have been left in the car alone for about 30 minutes in 85°F weather while his mother shopped.

Mount Prospect police arrested Zhao Yan, 41, of the 700 block of Weidner Road of Buffalo Grove, and charged her with endangering the health of her 4-year-old child.

  1. How dumb could this mother be!!! She should not be allowed to keep this child! I know it’s seems extreme, but everyone knows (common sense) that you do not leave a child in a car alone, especially in this heat!!!

  2. Where I work (a public building) I once paged for whoever left a dog in a hot car. The woman who responded just about tore my head off over my concern. The woman with the kid is lucky nobody had to break her window open with a rock, hammer, etc… I wonder if the police would go after a Samaritan who would damage her car?
