Crystal Meth Floods US Border Crossing at San Ysidro

#ad▼

The smuggling of the crystal methamphetamine at land border crossings has jumped in recent years but especially at San Diego’s San Ysidro port of entry, which accounted for more than 40 percent of seizures in fiscal year 2012.

Teenagers, juveniles often carry meth strapped to their body. Family units of all ages also are caught with meth.

K-9 units are capable of detecting the odor of crystal methamphetamine. When the meth is stored in vehicles, it is usually well concealed and requires extensive searching and dismantling of common vehicle sections.

San Ysidro is a district in the far southern section of San Diego, and encompasses US Interstate 5 at the busiest land border crossing in the world (Sand Diego – Tijuana). San Ysidro is immediately north of the U.S.-Mexico border, and neighbors Otay Mesa West to the north, Otay Mesa to the east, and Nestor and the Tijuana River Valley to the west. Major raodways include Beyer Boulevard and San Ysidro Boulevard.

San Ysidro is also where ICE deports the most Mexicans back into Mexico.
