John Talmo Charged With Strangling And Beating His Girlfriend’s Pet Cats To Death

John Talmo, 22, of 200 the block of north Derbyshire Avenue, was charged in the Rolling Meadows branch of Cook County Circuit Court Thursday with aggravated cruelty to an animal. Bond was set at $125,000.

Assistant State’s Attorney Moe Ahmad said the cat killing started in June 2012, when Talmo was believed to be taking care of a cat named Princess while his girlfriend was out of town. Allegedly, Talmo strangled the cat ,then told his girlfriend that it had suddenly died.

In October 2012, Talmo strangled and beat a cat named Abigail until it died.

In February 2013, the body of a third cat, Piper, was taken to a veterinary hospital and discovered to have been killed by strangulation and beating.

Talmo, he told police he lost his temper when the cats scratched or bit him.

Court date is April 12.

Two other pet killings have occurred in Arlington Heights the past few years. On December 14, 2009, Kevin Colabuono was sentenced to 30 months of probation and ordered to perform 240 hours of community-service work, after he was arrested and charged with aggravated cruelty to an animal after allegedly shaking his girlfriend’s cat to death.

On July 5, 2012 a small dog that was discovered killed in a microwave oven, the day after the house was burglarized. An ex-boyfriend was a person of interest, but no known arrest was made.
