Watch for Buckled Pavement, Especially on High Speed Highways and Expressways
Buckled pavement sends an SUV airborne in Chippewa County, Wisconsin.
Pavement buckled on Highway 29 near County Road T in Chippewa County, southwest of Chippewa Fall, Wisconsin Sunday causing an SUV to go airborne and crash across oncoming lanes. Theresa Reich, of Eau Claire, Wisconsin was on the County Road T bridge over Highway 29 taking still pictures of the roadway problem on Highway 29 and didn’t realize she had accidentally changed her camera mode from still frame mode to video mode. Initially, she didn’t realize she was capturing the video of the launched SUV — the reason for the shaky video.
A driver and a passenger in the SUV were transported to a local hospital after the crash. The pavement buckle was patched immediately, but additional problems developed and the road was closed for major repairs Monday afternoon.
