Caught on Camera: Leopard Attacks Forest Guards, Villagers in India

#ad▼

A leopard mauled at least 11 people in a battle with Indian villagers and officials, Tuesday, who were trying to return the leopard to a wildlife sanctuary. The leopard eventually died of knife wounds from villagers that inflicted while they were defending themselves. The leopard was finally captured and subdued after being hit by a tranquilizer gun, but the knife wounds killed the cat. Forest officials were trying to force the leopard out of a village near Siliguri and into a wildlife sanctuary. The leopard went on the offensive while citizens of the village ran to higher elevations to avoid the leopard, or defended themselves — stabbing it with knives, or hitting it with stones and batons.

Several people suffered claw injuries, but all are expected survive.
