Palatine police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 4:25 p.m. Monday to a report of a child on a bicycle hit by a vehicle at Northwest Highway and Glencoe.

A young boy was struck by a van while he attempted to cross Northwest Highway from east to west. The driver did not see him because of a traffic backup near the intersection. He was hit by the van as it was turning off of Northwest Highway onto Glencoe. The injured boy was transported to Northwest Community Hospital

The northbound lanes of Northwest Highway were shut down for management of the scene and then for accident investigation.
