Driver Pulls Over for Battalion Chief on Meacham, Then Pulls into Traffic and Hits Rolling Meadows Ambulance

Rolling Meadows Fire Department were responding about 8:30 p.m. Thursday southbound on Meacham Road to an emergency call with lights and sirens when a driver pulled over to the shoulder near Deep Woods Lane. The driver let a Rolling Meadows Fire Department Battalion Chief vehicle pass. A Rolling Meadows Fire Department rescue-ambulance was following with lights and sirens on when the driver pulled back into traffic to try to make a left turn into Dawngate Lane on the opposite side of Meacham. During the turn the driver hit the ambulance.

The driver of the car was cited for failure to yield when turning left; failure to yield to an emergency vehicle, and DUI-drugs.

Schaumburg Fire Department and Palatine Fire Department assisted Rolling Meadows to handle the original call and the crash scene. The citizen and a firefighter/paramedic received minor injuries.
