Hearst News Service says longtime White House correspondent Helen Thomas is retiring after controversial remarks on Israel.

Hearst News Service has retired Helen Thomas, who last weekend said Israel should get the hell out of Palestine and go home to Germany and Poland. White House Press Secretary Robert Gibbs called her remarks offensive and reprehensible.

A local Washington D.C. high school also canceled her graduation speech at the school.
