Arlington Heights firefighters/paramedics fought a basement fire in an apartment/condominium building in the 1400 block of North Arlington Heights Road just after 2:00 a.m. Tuesday. Firefighters had a quick knockdown of a fire in a basement. The fire was possibly in a laundry room area. Visibility was down to zero as firefighters searched through the smoke in the basement to find the fire. Within 15 minutes the fire was extinguished, and firefighters were ventilating the building.

As the firefighters put the fire out in the basement, they also searched the apartment building several times for occupants. All residents were evacuated safely. The fire was ventilated with a fan, and carbon monoxide levels were being brought down to safe levels. No injuries were reported.

As of 3:00 a.m. Tuesday residents were still not allowed back into the building because of elevated CO levels.

Arlington Heights Fire Department is investigating the fire.
