Man Commits Suicide by Semi-Trailer Truck on Interstate 290 Near Irving Park Road

Itasca Fire Department and the Illinois State Police responded to report of a vehicle vs. pedestrian incident on westbound I-290 near Irving Park Road Thursday afternoon. A Lombard man, age 37, was killed after an apparent suicide when he exited his car parked on the shoulder of I-290 and walked into the path of a westbound semi-trailer truck. The accident was reported just before 1:00 p.m. Thursday near Irving Park Road, and the man was pronounced dead at the scene. Three westbound lanes of I-290 near Irving Park Road, which are actually northbound at that section of the interstate, were blocked for about two hours.


Once caller also reported the accident after a slight delay, and wasn’t sure of the exact location. That caller pinpointed the crash closer to Interstate 90, which had crews from Schaumburg Fire Department and Elk Grove Village Fire Department also looking for the victim just after 1:00 p.m.

Illinois State Police investigating the incident.
