UPDATE: Edgardo De La Torre died on Wednesday after he was taken off life support at Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge. His 16th birthday was Tuesday, Dec. 1.

A 16-year-old Glenview male teen driving a stolen car chased seven teens from Church Street, just south of Golf Mill mall into a Golf Mill parking lot about 7:00 p.m. Saturday. A 16-year-old was knocked down on the first pass of the stolen 2002 black Chevy Cavalier, and when the car circled around, 15-year-old Edgardo De La Torre was struck, which caused severe, life-threatening injuries.

Edgardo, the 15-year-old, was transported to Level One Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital in Park Ridge, Illinois. The 16-year-old that was struck by the Cavalier was treated and released at the scene.

The crime culminated after a dispute over a teen female on a social network website.

The Glenview teen offender abandoned the car in the 8800 block of North Wisner Street, Niles — a few blocks from the crime scene.

The boy was arrested Monday — charged as a juvenile with two counts of aggravated battery. Charges are expected to be upgraded.
