Long Grove Fire Department paramedics were assisted by paramedics from Buffalo Grove and Palatine fire departments. One male victim, age 24, had a stab wound to the upper abdomen and was transported to Northwest Community Hospital. Another victim, age 27, had superficial wounds on the arms and over the ribs, and was treated on the scene. The crime occurred in a third floor apartment. It is unknown how the third person was injured.

The stabbing marks the second crime in the area in a week. Police and firefighters were called to the 4100 block of Bonhill Drive on Friday, February 6, 2208 at about 4:00 a.m. for a fire call that turned out to be a tear gas canister released on a second-floor apartment hallway. Over twenty people were injured by the discharged tear gas.

Lake County police had an emergency of their own and called Buffalo Grove Police for backup minutes before the Randall Lane call in Cook County. Lake Sheriff deputies called for help from the Buffalo Grove police after they tasered and used tear gas on several offenders in the 300 block of Redwing Drive in Deerfield, Illinois. That call started as a noise complaint.
