Vice President: McCain Chooses Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as Running Mate for November 2008 Election

Alaska governor Sarah Palin, 44, has been selected as John McCain’s vice presidential running mate according two senior campaign officials. A formal announcement is expected later today in Ohio with music leading up to announcement from Finger Eleven, Kiss and Creed. John McCain entered the auditorium on his birthday to the tune of Right Now by Van Halen (listen to the amazonmp3) . A tight lid was kept on this selection with McCain traveling on several secret trips to Alaska to coordinate the selection.

“A maverick picked by a maverick.” Palin is known as a governor of Alaska, a former small town mayor, hockey mom, political reformer, distance runner, sports reporter, successful business woman. Palin is a lifetime member of the National Rifle Association (NRA).

Palin is the second female major party vice presidential nominee and the first Republican nominee in history. Geraldine Ferraro was the first vice presidential nominee in 1984 — the same year that Sarah Palin won the Miss Wasilla (Alaska), was voted Miss Congeniality and was the runner up in the Miss Alaska beauty pageant.
