Update on 100 MPH Lexus From October 14: DUI, Fleeing and Eluding on Palatine Rd, Arlington Heights

Several alert citizens were concerned about a police incident involving a driver that fled in a silver Lexus on Monday, October 14, 2013 about 8:30 a.m. — especially since the incident was in proximity of two attacks on females that occurred recently. The incident was a traffic/DUI incident that is not known to be connected to the cases involving early morning attacks on females at Incident #1 Lake Arlington and Incident #2 at Hintz Road and Haddow Avenue, that occurred about dawn on Thursday, September 26, 2013 and Friday, October 11, 2013, respectively.

On Monday, October 14, 2013 at about 8:34 a.m. an Arlington Heights police officer observed a silver Lexus RX 350 vehicle speeding eastbound on Palatine Road at Forrest Avenue. The officer activated his emergency lights. Police observed the offender drive across the raised median into oncoming westbound lanes around a vehicle that was stopped at the traffic signal at Schoenbeck Road. The driver then disobeyed the traffic signal and passed through the intersection. The officer lost sight of the vehicle, but continued in the same direction without emergency lights. The offending vehicle was reported to be traveling in excess of 100 mph. Police pulled up behind the offender at Wheeling Road, but the offender drove across the raised median again, and through a red light again — nearly colliding with oncoming traffic. The offender then turned northbound on Wheeling Road. Because of the excessive speed, the officer lost sight of the offending vehicle near Harvester Court, but not before he was able to obtain the license plate number. Wheeling police were called for assistance in searching for the vehicle. Ten minutes later, Wheeling police found the unoccupied vehicle parked in the 400 block of Denniston Court in Wheeling, just north of Wheeling Road and Harvester Court. The offender was found walking by another Wheeling police officer at Hintz Road, just east of the railroad tracks. A strong odor of alcoholic beverage was allegedly on the offender’s breath.
