Wauconda firefighter/paramedics and Lake County Sheriff’s deputies responded about 10:39 p.m. Sunday December 24, 2017 to a report of a two-vehicle crash, with one person pinned inside a car in the 27900 block of West Belvidere Road (Route 120 and Fisher Road) in Wauconda Township near Round Lake.

Lake County Sheriff’s Deputies and firefighter/paramedics discovered that a small SUV had crashed into the passenger side of the 4-door Ford Taurus with about 3 feet of intrusion into the Ford Taurus.

The driver of the Ford was not wearing a seatbelt and was pronounced deceased at the scene. The driver of the Nissan was transported to Advocate Good Shepherd Hospital in Barrington with injuries that were initially expected to be non-life-threatening.

The crash is under investigation by the Lake County Sheriff’s Office Technical Crash Investigations Unit. Lake County Sheriff’s Crash Investigators were assisted by the Lake County Major Crash Assistance Team and Lakemoor Police.

Preliminary investigation shows a Ford Taurus, driven by a male, was traveling eastbound on Route 120 in the area of Fisher Road. The driver of the Ford Taurus lost control of his vehicle and the vehicle slid sideways into the westbound lanes of traffic. The Ford was struck on the passenger-side by a westbound Nissan Rogue, driven by a 58 year-old man from McHenry.

The identity of the driver of the Ford Taurus is pending identification and notification of next of kin. An autopsy of the driver is being scheduled by the Lake County Coroner’s Office.
