Apple Admits to Slowing iPhones to Prevent Shutdowns; Calls It a Feature

APPLE SECRETLY THROTTLING THE SPEED OF YOUR IPHONE …

Let’s understand what is really true about Apple — behind all the dazzling iPhone screens, facial recognition, and numerous functions.

1. The company is involved in planned obsolescence of its products.

2. The company lies to its customers to distract them with gobbledygook in an attempt to convince them believe Apple is looking out for the customer’s best interest. For example, Apple tells customers they’re giving them a feature, while they’re stealing their time and functionality of their iPhones.

FACTS

Fact #1. Apple designed the Apple iPhone 6 and Apple iPhone 6 Plus and other iPhones with power-consuming features that knowingly outstrip the ability of the battery long before the phone is actually near the end of its useful hardware life.

Fact #2. Apple makes it difficult, if not impossible, for the average user to replace the battery. In fact, in some situations, the phone’s Touch ID feature is rendered useless even when a technician replaces the battery, because disassembly required to exchange the battery causes disruption of the Touch ID component.

Fact #3. Some Apple iPhones abruptly shut down well before their software battery meter indicates there is a significantly low battery. In other words, for some customers, Apple iPhones have abruptly shut down when the software battery meter graph indicates there is 21% to 40% of battery life remaining. The shutdowns occur especially when iPhone cameras are being used for photos or videos, and especially in cold weather.

Fact #4. The abrupt and unexpected shut downs could occur in an emergency that could cause loss of life or serious injury in a situation where an iPhone is need to call 9-1-1 or during other mission critical communications in emergencies. Apple should be liable for this malfunction.

Fact #5. Apple uses software updates to slow down older iPhones with weaker batteries in an attempt to prevent these shutdowns from occurring. In other words, the processors on some iPhones, including the iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and even the iPhone 7, aren’t always running at full power as their batteries age. Actions such as scrolling, using apps, switching apps, opening apps, etc., seems slower because the actions ARE slower. It’s not just because customers sample a newer iPhone at the store, and their old phone seems slower. Their old phone has really been slowed down by an Apple update. Apple’s software update slows down customer iPhones in an attempt to prevent the iPhone from abruptly shutting down.

Fact #6. Apple lies to customers by telling them that the company is attempting to deliver the best solution by introducing “a feature” that smooths out the instantaneous peaks only when needed to prevent the device from shutting down. Only Apple, in its arrogance and disregard for the wellbeing of customers, could call that a “feature”. The truth be known is that this is not a feature at all. Apple’s throttling of the iPhone processors to prevent peaks in power consumption, which slows down the phone, and indirectly drives customers to want a new iPhone long before their capable hardware is even close to the end of its useful life, is a sly trick. Apple’s so-called feature is a half-assed patch.

Apple’s Response to TechCrunch Regarding Power Profiles for Older Batteries
Our goal is to deliver the best experience for customers, which includes overall performance and prolonging the life of their devices. Lithium-ion batteries become less capable of supplying peak current demands when in cold conditions, have a low battery charge or as they age over time, which can result in the device unexpectedly shutting down to protect its electronic components.

Last year we released a feature for iPhone 6, iPhone 6s and iPhone SE to smooth out the instantaneous peaks only when needed to prevent the device from unexpectedly shutting down during these conditions. We’ve now extended that feature to iPhone 7 with iOS 11.2, and plan to add support for other products in the future.

If Apple’s goal is to deliver the best experience for customers, then let them design future iPhones with a user-replaceable battery, or provide a service station in Apple Stores where customers can schedule an appointment and have their batteries replaced in 10 minutes with a new, fresh battery. Or design or utilize a battery lasts at least four years — before it needs a throttle of the iPhone to keep the iPhone powered on.

Make amends with faithful customers that been sold fraudulent products that were never designed to be operated with a battery that keeps reasonable pace with the hardware capabilities, including the increased power consumption of new operating system upgrades and updates. Apple should replace the batteries free of charge, as an apology (or penalty) for hiding their power management scheme until independent tests called them out.
