Des Plaines police and firefighter/paramedics responded about 10:30 p.m. Saturday December 16, 2017 to 1501 Miner Street by the train station to a report of a person hit by a car. The man that was hit died about 22 hours after being hit by a hit-and-run driver.

Des Plaines police and firefighter/paramedics found a man unconscious and unresponsive on Miner Street, just after 10:30 p.m., and identified the man as Henry Sinisterra, age 18, of Rosemont. Police determined that Sinisterra was the victim of a hit-and-run, and that the incident occurred, possibly about 10:27 a.m. The suspected vehicle involved in the hit-and-run is described as a red SUV. The driver allegedly fled the area after hitting Sinisterra, but no description of the driver was available. It is unknown whether the police were not able to get a description of the driver, or whether they chose not to release the driver’s physical description.

Witnesses told police Sinisterra was walking on Miner Street before he was hit. Witnesses said he was nearly hit by other vehicles before was actually hit.

Des Plaines firefighter/paramedics transported Sinisterra to Level I Trauma Center Advocate Lutheran General Hospital with life-threatening injuries, while Des Plaines police immediately closed Miner Street between Lee Street and Pearson Street for investigation of the scene.

Henry Sinisterra was pronounced dead at 8:02 p.m. Sunday December 17, 2017, police said.

Three pedestrians were hit near the same location in two separate incidents — one fatal — on Thursday, July 23, 2015. Flashing warning lights for the crosswalk were installed following those two incidents.

A 69-year-old woman, Irma Diaz, was walking in the crosswalk when she was hit about 1:45 p.m. on Thursday, July 23, 2015. She died the following Sunday. The driver that hit her was issued citations for Failure to Yield a Pedestrian and Driving with an Expired Driver’s License.

Two female bicyclists, age 13, were hit by a vehicle near the same location about two hours after Irma Diaz was hit in the 2015 fatal incident. Both girls suffered significant injuries, and were transported to Northwest Community Hospital in Arlington Heights. A driver was cited with Failure to Yield a Pedestrian after the bicyclists were hit.

Police said Tuesday the investigation into the Saturday December 16, 2017 incident is ongoing. Any citizens with information about the December 16, 2017 incident are urged to call Des Plaines police investigators at 847-391-5400.
