Heroin Overdose Deaths Spiking in Chicago’s Suburbs

Heroin and drug overdoses continue to increase in Chicago and the suburbs. Here are the figures compiled by the ABC7 Eyewitness News I-Team and from the Cook County Medical Examiner’s Office.

568 people dead from “accidental” heroin and fentanyl overdoses in Cook County so far in 2017 (January-September), compared to 1,091 deaths in Cook County for all of 2016.

649 opiate-related overdose deaths in Cook County in 2015.

387 opioid deaths so far this year in the city of Chicago.

53 people dead from “accidental” heroin and fentanyl overdoses in McHenry County so far in 2017 (January-September) — compared to 56 for the entire year 2016.
