Schaumburg Armed Robbery Suspect

Schaumburg police responded about 8:40 PM Friday September 15, 2017 to an armed robbery in the block of 1400 Mercury Drive near Wise Road Schaumburg, IL. Police received a report that an offender jumped out bushes nearby before displaying a weapon and robbing the victim.

A male victim in his 30s was walking home in the block of 1400 Mercury Drive near Savannah Trace Park when the offender displayed a black semiautomatic handgun and demanded his wallet.

The victim gave the offender his wallet, which contained more than $200 in cash. The gunman then slapped the victim across the face and ran southbound along Mercury Drive, according to a Schaumburg Police Department press release. Initially it was reported the offender ran northwest along Mercury Drive from the scene.

The victim declined medical treatment, and was not transported to a hospital by paramedics.

Police searched the area with a K-9 unit, but did not find the offender.

The gunman was described as a male/black, muscular, 6’0″, about 30 years old, with a clean-shaven face and a scratchy voice. The offender was wearing a black baseball cap, red shirt and possibly blue jeans.

The crime was initially reported to have occurred about 9:09 p.m. Also, within minutes after the crime, it was unknown whether the robbery was in a business or on the street, because of a vague police area bulletin broadcast. Schaumburg police use an encrypted police dispatch radio system, which prevents neighborhood watch groups and media from obtaining real time alerts and details of violent crimes in the area.

Schaumburg police urge anyone with information about the case, or who was in the area about the time of the armed robbery to call 847-882-3586.
