Apple set to launch the next iPhone on September 12, 2017.

Apple is preparing to release a new iPhone that could include a major upgrade in specifications in late September 2017 during the 10 year anniversary of the introduction of the iPhone.

The year 2017 marks the tenth anniversary of the original iPhone, which was first announced when Apple’s legendary co-founder Steve Jobs introduced the digital lifestyle movement via the first iPhone on January 9, 2007. Apple released the Apple iPhone on June 29, 2007.

Apple has sent out invitations for an event on September 12, 2017 at its newly built headquarters in Cupertino, California. The invitation has the tagline “Let’s meet at our place” and includes a colorful picture of the Apple logo. The event is scheduled to start at 10:00 am Pacific Time (1:00 pm ET/12:00 pm CT). Apple usually includes a live stream video with these type of events.

The name that Apple might give the new phone is up for grabs. Although it might be the Apple iPhone 8, the name might be the iPhone 10 or iPhone X, to mark the anniversary, or the name might align with MacBook and Apple iPad names — iPhone Air, iPhone Pro, etc.

Along with the iPhone 8, Apple is also expected to announce the Apple Watch 3 and a new version of the Apple TV capable of playing 4K content. This would be the first iPhone launch held at the company’s massive new headquarters, also known as the “spaceship campus”. Tim Cook will take to the stage of the Steve Jobs Theater

Apple traditionally releases its latest iPhones during the first two weeks of September, in time for the start of the Christmas and winter holiday shopping season. Under optimal production conditions, the new phones would likely be available for pre-order on Friday, September 15, 2017 and ready for in-store pickup from the shelves as early as September 22, 2017.

New iPhone Specification Rumors

Apple is rumoured to be producing three versions of its next iPhone …

a 4.7-inch iPhone 7s,

a 5.5-inch iPhone 7s Plus, and

a 5.8-inch iPhone 8.

Apple is reportedly working on a new edge-to-edge display technology, which could keep the physical size of the entire phone down. The iPhone 8 reportedly has a new OLED display that will stretch across the whole front of the phone, but is also the reason for the possible high cost of the rumored $1,000 phone. OLED screens, which are more expensive than LED/LCD screens, function with blacker blacks and brighter whites, lower power consumption and faster response times compared to LED displays.

The new iPhone is expected to operate with iOS 11.

The new iPhone may be capable of wireless charging.

The new iPhone may be capable Facial Recognition and Iris Detection for unlocking features and other app features. The new iPhone might include an infrared camera that work with facial scanning in darkness.

The new iPhone may include firmware code that connects to the newly announced The HomePod speaker is Apple’s version of the Amazon Echo or Google Home that is scheduled to be launched in December 2017.

The new iPhone is expected to be water resistant similar to the iPhone 7.

There is a rumor that the new iPhone will include a free pair of AirPods wireless headphones.

The wireless earphones were announced along with the iPhone 7, but were the subject of jokes for looking ridiculous, and for their propensity for getting lost, or being dropped down sewer grates, etc. Some people reject the thought of having one more device to charge. The AirPods deliver up to 5 hours of listening time on one charge, and come in a special case that doubles as a charger, which Apple claims offers more than 24 hours of total listening time. AirPods link up to the iPhone or Apple Watch via Bluetooth, and use sensors to automatically detect when they are in a user’s ears. Apple touts they play or pause music accordingly.

AirPods also contain a pair of microphones for users control of music selections, volume changes, battery life monitoring using Siri.
