Itasca Hard Hit By Severe Storm: Downed Power Lines, Downed Trees

#ad▼

Itasca police and firefighters responded approximately 4:56 p.m. after a severe storm with high winds moved through the Village of Itasca. At this time no serious injuries have been reported. Itasca had multiple reports of wires down, arcing powerlines, uprooted trees, trees into houses, flooding, and an area-wide power outage. Currently with the assistance of area fire departments, Itasca was able to respond to the increase in emergency calls. Addison, Elmhurst, Westmont, Western Springs, and Wood Dale have fire crews staged at village hall. As of 730 p.m. Itasca received a total of 41 emergency calls. The Itasca Fire Protection District is working closely with Village at Itasca officials, the Itasca Police Department, as well as Itasca Public Works to ensure the safety of Itasca residents.

Due to the area-wide power outage, high humidity and high temperatures, the American Red Cross has been contacted to respond to the Village Hall located at 550 W. Irving Park Rd. Anyone in need of assistance from the American Red Cross is asked to contact the Itasca Police Department at 630-773-1004. The Village of Itasca has requested light towers from Westmont, Pleasant view and Elmhurst. These light towers will be strategically placed throughout the village.

After assessing the affected areas, it appears that the area south of Theodore and north of George have been the hardest hit in Itasca. Residents have come together to aid in the removal of downed trees and to block streets where there are downed wires. The Village of Itasca asked that residents please dial 911 for all emergencies, and not call the fire department or the police department directly. The Village of Itasca has been inundated with phone calls and would like to utilize limited resources to address emergency calls. For updates and further information, the Village of Itasca asks that residence visit the Village of Itasca Facebook page and Twitter account.
