Arlington Heights police responded about 12:25 AM Tuesday July 11, 2017 to a State Police notification of two stolen bobtail trucks on I-290 and Golf Road Rolling Meadows, IL —
northbound on I-290/IL-53. Illinois State Police received a report that a commercial yard manager was chasing two bobtail trucks and an offender chase vehicle northbound on I-290/IL-53 near Golf Road. Currently the exact trucking yard or commercial yard location where the bobtails were stolen is unknown.

The civilian chase from Golf Road to US 12 and Route 176 involved about 22 miles, while the police-involved portion of the chase involved about 11 miles from the area of the Route 53 spur and Lake Cook Road to US 12 and Route 176, where at least one suspect was apprehended.

A police pursuit began after area police received a notification about 12:25 a.m. that a vehicle theft victim was chasing two bobtail trucks that were stolen from a trucking yard. Initial notification was at northbound I-290 at Golf Road. An alert Arlington Heights police unit became involved in the pursuit of the two stolen “bobtails” including the offenders’ chase vehicle shortly after 12:25 a.m. approximately near Lake Cook Road and the IL-Route 53 spur. Arlington Heights police announced they were following the offenders and the victim by 12:27 a.m. The offenders’ chase vehicle was a silver heavy duty pickup truck with a female in the pickup truck. The victim in his personal vehicle was still chasing the offenders (in two solid white bobtails and a silver pickup truck) with his personal vehicle hazard lights activated.

The pursuit passed Quentin Road on Rand Road about 12:32 a.m.

The chase passed Deerpath at about 12:34 a.m.

The chase passed Ela Road at 12:35 a.m.

One bobtail was stopped and another bobtail was driving away along Rand Road at about 12:40 a.m.

The remaining chase was on Rand Road near Old Rand Road about 12:40 a.m.

Lake County Sheriff’s deputies and possibly a Wauconda police unit attempted a traffic stop on Rand Road just south of Route 176 in Wauconda at about 12:41 a.m. At least one subject was in custody on Rand Route (US 12) just south of Route 176 by 12:44 a.m.

It is unknown whether Arlington Heights police continued following, or handed off the pursuit to Lake County Sheriff’s deputies. It is also unknown whether Arlington Heights attempted to stop the offenders at any point, or instead maintained visual contact with the chase vehicles.
