Man Rescued in Lake in the Hills House Fire Dies; Identity Released

A man who was rescued from a fire in his home on Sunday night died about an hour after he arrived at Centegra Hospital in Huntley. An autopsy performed Monday determined he died of burns and soot inhalation.

Algonquin-Lake in the Hills Fire Protection District firefighters responded at 9:10 p.m. Sunday February 12, 2017 to a report of a house fire with a person trapped at 951 Creek View Lane.

Firefighters received a report that a person was trapped on the second floor of the house. Firefighters on the scene discovered heavy smoke and fire coming from the master bedroom, and found a 61-year-old Arthur W. Knutson at 9:21 p.m.

Knutson was transported to Centegra Huntley Hospital with life threatening injuries. The house fire was declared extinguished at 9:40 p.m.

No firefighters were injured, and no other residents were reported injured.

Lake in the Hills Police, Huntley Fire Protection District, Crystal Lake Fire Department, Barrington-Countryside Fire Department and Fox River Grove Fire Protection District responded for mutual aid for Algonquin-Lake in the Hills FPD firefighters.

The cause of the fire is under investigation. A damage estimate was not initially reported.
