Whole Foods on 1111 Chicago Ave in Evanston Among Nine Stores Closing Nationwide

A Whole Foods in Evanston, Illinois is among nine Whole Foods locations that are closing by April, 2017. The Evanston store, located at 1111 Chicago Ave., will close along on March 19, 2017. Eight other locations across the United States will close by April. No other Whole Foods stores are closing in Chicagoland.

Whole Foods has 440 stores in the United States. Competition in the organic-food market niche is increasing, especially as regular grocery stores dedicate sections to organic foods.

Whole Foods continues to be the butt of the joke about its high prices, with people often connecting Whole Foods prices being connect with their whole paycheck being gone.

Whole Foods announced the closings Wednesday, February 8, 2017.

Mackey also said that Whole Foods remains “optimistic about the future growth potential for our 365 format but we want to see how this next round of stores perform before getting more aggressive.”

• Boulder, Colorado
• Colorado Springs, Colorado
• Salt Lake City (Draper)
• Davis, California
• Augusta, Georgia
• Prescott, Arizona
• Encinitas, California

There are two additional Whole Foods stores in Evanston, one at 1640 Chicago Avenue that is closer to Northwestern University, and one at 2748 Green Bay Road that is closer to Wilmette.
