Cell Phone Store and Grocery Store Robbed in Waukegan in Past 24 Hours

Waukegan police responded to two armed robberies in the past 24 hours. Wednesday night police responded to an armed robbery at a cellphone store on Washington Street near Lewis Avenue, and Thursday afternoon Waukegan police responded to an armed robbery at a grocery store on Franklin Street near Ash Street.

 CELL STORE ROBBED … 

Waukegan police responded about 7:40 p.m. Wednesday, December 27, 2016 officers to a report of a takeover style armed robbery at to the Metro PCS cell phone store in the 1815 Washington Street. Employees told police that the store was robbed at gunpoint by two suspects.

Suspect #1 was described as a male/black, approximately 5’05”, thin build, wearing a black beanie hat, brown jacket, black mask, and black gloves, and armed with a black handgun.

Suspect #2 was described as a male/black, approximately 5’05”, thin build, wearing a dark beanie hat, black jacket over a dark colored hooded sweatshirt, black mask, and black gloves.

The suspects entered the store and ordered store employees to sit on the ground during the incident. The employees were not injured during the incident.

The suspects took money, and were last seen fleeing to a vehicle parked in the area. The vehicle is described as a light-colored 4-door sedan with the driver’s side headlight out.

The Waukegan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is currently investigating the incident.

 GROCER ROBBED … 

Waukegan police responded about 12:56 p.m. Thursday December 29, 2016 to a report of an armed robbery of Cribb Fine Foods grocery store, 626 Franklin Street.

Employees report that a man armed with a black unknown type handgun entered the store and demanded money.

The offender was described as male/white or male/Hispanic, age late 20s, 5’6″ with a medium build and wearing a black ski mask, gray sweatpants with a white string, dark hoody sweatshirt, white socks and dark shoes or red and white Jordan shoes, police said.

The robber fled the scene in a dark or black, small or mid-size SUV — possibly a Dodge Nitro or Jeep Patriot. The license plate is listed as X54 with remainder of the plate unknown at this time. The offender and vehicle were last seen northbound on Poplar Street from Franklin Street.
