Comcast Xfinity: See what happens when Grandma’s house gets hooked up with XFINITY this holiday.

Comcast Xfinity launched a TV ad mid-November that they report was inspired by genuine tweets from teens on their way to their grandparent’s house for the holidays — off the grid.

Their ad agency explained …

“We discovered a bunch of tweets from grandkids lamenting the technological black hole that is Grandma’s house during the holidays,” said Bryan Rowles, executive creative director at 72andSunny, New York. 72andSunny is a full-service advertising company with offices in Los Angeles, Amsterdam and New York. “We immediately related to that plight. It’s such a universal experience. So we set out to prove that Xfinity could be a catalyst for bringing families together, and can make Grandma’s house the most awesome place to be.”

In the ad, grandparents intercept tweets on their phones that describe grandparents’ homes with no technology. Next thing you know, a Comcast Xfinity van rolls up and converts the on of the grandparent’s home beyond the “gates of hell” into a high-tech home with Wi-Fi, voice remote control, shows, movies and music on demand, and Xfinity X1.

“Our inspiration came from real consumer insights that showed there’s a misconception that seniors aren’t up on the latest technology, so we wanted to create a fun spot that made grandma and grandpa the hero for the holidays,” explains brand Marketing VP Todd Arata of Comcast.

Connected television seems to give a more integrated option. You can have separate guests at a home isolated on their smartphones and tablets, or you can have television integrate the whole digital experience in a home.
