India Train Derailment at 3AM Kills Dozens Near Kanpur

A train derailment in India has killed at least 95 people near the northern city of Kanpur, a police official said. CNN’s Ravi Agrawal reports.

Rescuers responded after fourteen of 22 coach cars of the Indore-Patna Express derailed just after 3:00 AM local time on Sunday (21:30 GMT Saturday) near the city of Kanpur.

The cause of the crash near the village of Pukhrayan has not yet been officially determine, but the Times of India quoted sources as saying a fracture in the track may have caused the derailment.

Most of the injured victims were located in two carriages near the engine which were overturned and severely damaged.
