[WARNING: Some bleeped out graphic language/Total time 20 minutes.] Last Week Tonight with John Oliver: The newspaper industry is suffering. That’s bad news for journalists — both real and fictional.

John Oliver analyzes the newspaper industry — critiquing the top down meddling of Sam Zell, Jeff Bezos, and Sheldon Adelson. Oliver goes on to lampoon the Tribune Company, which owns the Chicago Tribune, Orlando Sentinel and Los Angeles Times. Now Tribune Publishing is tronc, Inc. — an American newspaper print and online media publishing company based in Chicago, Illinois. Oliver make fun of the name “tronc” and then criticized the “X” logo which represents artificial intelligence in the newsroom. “X” as explained by “tronc” will help reporters with artificial intelligence to help journalists more efficiently find the right photos, the right videos, the databases used to repackage stories. Oliver calls the logo the most meaningless graphic ever created … wonder what Oliver thinks of Mac OS X.

A clip from C-SPAN shows “The Wire” Series Creator and former Baltimore Sun reporter David Simon explain the future of journalism and newspapers as follows: “The next ten or 15 years will be a halcyon era for state and local political corruption, and it is going to be one of the great times to be a corrupt politician.”
