Waukegan Police: Group of Armed Robbers Rob Man in Backyard on May St; Bicyclist Attempts Robbery on Adams St

Following several robberies, Waukegan police are seeking a group of men suspected in an armed robbery and an attempted armed robbery early Tuesday and late Tuesday July 12, 2016 on Waukegan’s southeast side.

The robbery occurred about 12:15 a.m. Tuesday when five males approached two victims in a backyard in the 600 block of May Street. Two to four of the suspects were armed with a gun. The victims reported the offenders took money and fled the area. No direction of travel was available.

The offenders were described as between 20 and 30 years old, and two wore bandannas over their faces, according to the release.

Description Details

Male/black 20-30 years old, with short hair, about 5’10” medium build and wearing a white sports jersey with dark pants;

Male/black armed with a gun 20-30 years old, wearing a black sports jersey, and a brown bandanna covering his face;

Male/black armed with a gun 20-25 years old, 5’3″ slim build and long hair, wearing a blue T-shirt and a black bandanna covering his face.

Two other suspects were described as being 20-30 years old and may have also been armed based on their stance and posture.

Attempted Robbery
The attempted robbery involved a victim sitting in his vehicle in his driveway in the 800 block of Adams Street when a 20-30-year-old man approached with a handgun about 10 p.m. Tuesday, July 12, 2016. The victim reported the offender demanded cash, and that he successfully fought off the armed man. No injuries were reported.

The offender was described as about 6’0″ with a thin build. The victim reported the offender fled the area on a white mountain bike.

Waukegan Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division is investigating both robberies as “separate occurrences,” according to a press release. Police urge anyone with information about these cases to call the Waukegan Police Department Tip Line at 847-360-9001.
