Chicago Police responded about 8:40 p.m. Sunday to a shooting in the 7000 block of Kanst Drive on the east side of Marquette Park, Chicago. An off-duty Cook County sheriff’s deputy shot two alleged gang members after they fired at people inside a car.

According to Chicago Police, the Cook County Sheriff’s deputy was eating in his car about 8:40 p.m. Sunday on South Kanst Drive when he saw a 15-year-old boy and a 23-year-old man arguing with people inside a car. The deputy reported he saw the two pull out weapons and fire at the vehicle.

When the deputy got out and identified himself as a police officer, the two turned and pointed their guns at the deputy, who pulled out his own weapon and shot them, Chicago police said.

The 15-year-old male suffered a gunshot wound to the leg, and the 23-year-old was shot in the ankle, police said. Both males were transported to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn where they were listed in good condition. No other injuries were reported.

Charges are pending against the two, who are both documented gang members, but the specific charges were no available Sunday evening. The males are possibly Ambrose or Almighty Ambrose gang members — not confirmed.

Chicago Police Department is investigating the shooting.
