Girl Gets Impetigo Bacterial Infection on Her Face After Swimming in Ocean Near Huntington Beach, Virginia

Doctors believe a 6-year-old girl developed a bacterial infection after swimming in the ocean with a small cut on her face.

A 6-year-old girl was diagnosed with impetigo after swimming in the ocean at Huntington Beach with a small cut on her face.

The next morning she experience swelling around both eyes, her face, neck and arms.

Her mother Nicole Sullivan, said her daughter Bella was treated with steroids, an antibiotic shot, and oral antibiotics.

There was a swimming advisory for high bacteria levels, but the alert was cleared before the girl went swimming.
