A teenage boy killed in an ATV crash about 7:00 p.m. Sunday night in the block of 2400 Bryn Mawr Lane in Crystal Lake died from asphyxia — the inability to breathe from the weight of an ATV that was on his chest.

The cause of death was revealed by autopsy results released Today.

McHenry County Coroner Anne Majewski on Tuesday said the teen’s official cause of death was compressional asphyxia, which is the loss of oxygen caused by the inability to breathe because the expansion of the chest for inhalation is restricted.

The crash is under investigation by Crystal Lake Police.
