RideAustin Invents Non-Profit Alternative to Uber, Lyft

NBC affiliate KXAN: Ride Austin ready to roll out this summer.

RideAustin is scheduled to go live by June 2016 as an Austin-only, nonprofit ride-hailing service that they say will launch by mid-June and will fully comply with the city ordinance.

A former Uber driver, interviewed by USA TODAY, says the non-profit model has the potential to increase the pay for drivers and decrease the cost for riders.

The tech and engineering worlds collided in Austin to develop a nonprofit ride-hailing app called RideAustin.
