Second Body Found in 48 Hours in Lake Michigan, Chicago Shore Region; Near Buckingham Fountain

The Chicago Fire Department and Chicago Police Marine Unit were called to the scene around 6:30 a.m. Monday. Firefighters and firefighter/divers arrived on the scene by 6:33 a.m.

A body was recovered from Lake Michigan about 500 South Lake Shore Drive near South Lake Shore Drive and East Balbo Avenue. Firefighters reported the incident was going to be a recovery by about 6:36 a.m. Monday.

The victim’s identity and gender was not immediately released. A police investigation is underway.

The incident marks the second body found near the Chicago-Lake Michigan shoreline. A body was found Saturday afternoon by a passing boater near the breakwater and lighthouse east of Navy Pier.
