Elk Grove residence and brothers Andrew Tompkins, 18, and Nicholas Tompkins, 21, were charged Tuesday with armed robbery — a felony that carries a maximum sentence of 30 years in prison.

Cook County Assistant State’s Attorney Maureen McGee said video surveillance shows the brothers entering the 7-Eleven store, 565 Landmeier Road about 3:00 a.m. Tuesday, February 9, 2016. Elk Grove Village police responded to the report Tuesday morning, and alerted area police departments about the robbery involving two male suspects — each armed with a knife.

The suspects are accused of taking $490 and 10 packs of cigarettes. Both suspects were arrested 2 1/2 hours later, after an Elk Grove police officer recognized one of the men from a previous complaint involving another case. The previous case did not result in an arrest.

A Cook County judge set bail Wednesday at $250,000 each for each suspect. Prosecutors say the brothers were each armed with steak knives while committing the robbery at the Elk Grove Village 7-Eleven.

Two suspects were described as …

#1 Male/white medium complexion, wearing a knitted winter cap with a stripe and a pompom, a black bandana over his face, and “flag” pajama pants.

#2 Male/white or Hispanic, wearing a black bandana over his face, and a dark-colored jacket with a hood.

The suspects fled the business on foot and possibly reached a car nearby.
