Melodie Gliniewicz Will Receive $33,500 from Frozen Account While Embezzlement Investigation Continues

Melodie Gliniewicz, the widow of Fox Lake Police Lt. Joe Gliniewicz, will receive $33,500 from a bank account frozen as part of an investigation into her late husband’s alleged embezzlement and suicide staged as his homicide.

Lake County Assistant State’s Attorney Ken LaRue said Monday the sum consists of a paycheck and donations received after Lt. Gliniewicz’s September 1, 2015 death.

Melodie Gliniewicz’s told attorneys she couldn’t pay her mortgage, medical bills, or family expenses.

Lt. Gliniewicz was accused of embezzling thousands of dollars from a police youth program. the embezzled money was used to pay for adult websites, gym memberships and family vacations. Investigators say Gliniewicz staged his own suicide to appear as a homicide taht occurred while he was investigating “three suspicious suspects. The discovery of his body with a devastating gunshot wound generated a costly and major manhunt and investigation.

Melodie Gliniewicz is also under investigation, but has not been charged with any crime. The donations are not under investigation.
